I created an MVP for an analytics dashboard called Insights by TiQuest. I worked on it as part of a project at the Apple Developer Academy in Napes, Italy.
The idea behind TiQuest is to digitalise paper receipts. At the time of the project TiQuest had a two-part solution to digitalise the paper receipt. One part of the solution is an app for the consumer, that matches banking transaction data with a digitalised receipt. The second part is a dashboard for merchants to allow for insights into sales data on the iPad.
In a cross-functional team of 12 people with 8 different nationalities, I was one of the two members of the design team. We worked together on multiple features but I was responsible for the dashboard and the visualisation of the insights provided by sales data.

One of the main criteria in designing this dashboard was to make it responsive. It needed to be accessible from the web and on various handheld devices. Another criteria was to find out what data is considered useful by the main user groups and how to integrate it in the design. Lastly, the aim was to make data beautiful and easy to read.
With a working proof of concept and a frequently iterated mockup for the dashboard I headed out with native speaking team members to gather information from restaurant owners. As this took place in Italy during my time at the Apple Developer Academy, we realised that restaurant owners are very protective about their finances. Our findings also revealed that indicators such as the weather matter a lot in restaurant sales and that most pre-existing analytic tools that come with POS systems are complicated and not easy to read.
After managing to collaborate with 3 restaurants and collecting their sales data we quickly realised that we had to revamp our current iteration. While competitors such as Square allowed us to see which numbers are important, our interviews with merchants showed us which data matters to users in Italy.
Our key findings included:
As an MVP it was enough to create an iPad app with scalability in mind, as our partners had a strong preference towards mobile instead of web. With weather having such a strong influence in the daily business we decided to add it to the dashboard. TiQuest was also shared by the Apple Developer Academy
The restaurant owners that collaborated with us where happy with our MVP. We had a clean interface, the visualisation was easy to read and the weather finally had been given the importance that it needed. The current version of Insights by TiQuest can be downloaded on the App Store.
